Internships @ Pittsburgh Filmmakers

Want to get involved? Pittsburgh Filmmakers is always looking for motivated individuals who want to become part of the Pittsburgh Filmmakers community.

Internship applications are accepted year-round. To apply, please send a copy of your resume and any relevant work samples. Please include a short description of your area(s) of interest, which internships you are interested in, and your proposed start date. If your application is of interest to us, you will be contacted for an interview.

All internships are unpaid and last for the duration of a semester. There is the option to continue the internship after one semester if agreed upon by the intern and supervisor.

Development Intern – This intern is responsible for assisting the Director of Development in their efforts to gain foundation and grant money. This intern will research possible sources of funding for Pittsburgh Filmmakers and the School, and will write grants to family foundations and other smaller government organizations. The ideal candidate will have previous experience in writing grants and have excellent organizational skills. Deadlines are key in this position, and the intern must be able to meet those. The direct supervisor for this position is the Director of Development.

Arts Administration Intern – This intern is responsible for coordinating the Executive Director's schedule, organizing events and special exhibits, contacting artists, assisting with development work, and general office-related tasks. It requires a high level of professionalism, motivation, and organization. This intern must have a willingness to commit to extra hours as needed and be a self-starter. The direct supervisor for this position is the Executive Director.

Three Rivers Film Festival Intern – This internship is available in the fall only. It is the responsibility of this intern to coordinate volunteers, catering, and special events for the Three Rivers Film Festival. The intern is also responsible for handling statistical reporting, prize-giveaways, and sponsors before, during, and after the festival. This is the largest film festival in the region, so this intern must be able to multi-task and work well under pressure. The direct supervisor for this position is the Executive Director.

Shorts Submissions/Exhibition Intern – This internship is only available in the summer. The intern will watch, document, and summarize submissions of short films for the Three Rivers Film Festival programming for the staff who will then choose the successful candidates. The direct supervisor for this position is the Executive Director.

Outreach Intern – This intern is responsible for handling special events at Pittsburgh Filmmakers. They will be in charge of catering, coordination, set up, breakdown, marketing efforts, and publicity. This intern will work with multiple departments including development, marketing, and education. The direct supervisor for this position is the Executive Director.

Design and Marketing Intern – This intern is responsible for assisting the Marketing department in their daily efforts. The intern will have a range of duties including website maintenance, press release archiving, editing written pieces, calendar updates, mailings, and special event promotion. The direct supervisor for this position is the Director of Marketing.

Writing and Editing Intern – This intern is responsible for writing blog entries, conducting faculty and artist interviews, creating calendar stories, and writing special event promotions. A high level of writing skills are necessary for this job. To apply, please include a writing sample (no more than 2 pages). The direct supervisor for this position is the Director of Marketing.

Photo/Video Documentation Intern – This intern is responsible for taking photos and videos of special events, openings, and educational efforts at Pittsburgh Filmmakers. This internship has irregular hours, so the ideal candidate must have a flexible schedule. The intern will work with the marketing department to produce short promotional films and publicity prints for the website and print materials to further Filmmakers' mission. The direct supervisor for this is the Marketing Associate.

Curatorial Intern – This intern is responsible for gallery maintenance, art installations, contacting artists, maintaining the collections database, and handling artwork. A high level of organization and professionalism are required for this position. Previous experience in handling artwork is preferred. The direct supervisor for this position is the Executive Director.

Curatorial Intern/Volunteer Needed

Duties include: gallery layout, wall and art preparation (framing, mounting, etc.), art installation as well as signage and label fabrication. The volunteer will work closely with the curator in assisting with exhibition layout and implementation but he or she MUST have the ability to work independently on small-scale curatorial tasks. Prior gallery installation experience is required

Work-Study and Internship Opportunities at Pittsburgh Filmmakers Equipment Office

We are seeking college students with a federal work-study award Duties include assisting students and members with equipment questions, assisting instructors, dispensing equipment, equipment and facility maintenence, mixing chemistry, film projection, and some light clerical work. Internships in exchange for access may be arranged Apply at the at the Equipment Office Experience in film, video, photography, and computers is helpful, but not required.
