Library Conversation Series
Our Library hosts a series of conversations on artmaking, new media, and film.
Our next Conversation series is September 16 at 7pm:
Heather Pinson, Ph.D.
"The Jazz Image: Seeing Music Through Herman Leonard's Photography," analyzes the work of photographer Herman Leonard, who took some of the most iconic photographs of jazz’s golden age during the 1940s and 1950s, in clubs and concert halls from New York to Paris. Leonard is a master of his craft, a groundbreaking photographer who humanized his subjects at a time when they were struggling off stage for equality and civil liberty. Leonard also has been a photographer of celebrities ranging from Frank Sinatra and Marlon Brando to Bono and Bill Clinton.
About the Library:
Any time the equipment office is closed, the library will also be closed.
The Pittsburgh Filmmakers Library supports the needs of the artist and the advancement of artistic excellence in the visual arts by making available materials in film, video, photography and digital media.
In addition to books, the library houses DVDs,
multiple periodical titles, stock footage, royalty free music, sound effects and photographic collections.
In-House Services:
The Library now offers a writing tutors program. Students are welcome to set up a free, private, appointment with a tutor who can provide
one-on-one assistance with writing assignments and writing skills. To set up an appointment email to jco@pghfilmmakers.org and include "Writing Tutor" in the subject line. Let us know what times are good for you and we will contact you to set up a tutoring
session.
We have 3 Apple iMac computers located in the library available for patron use. Patrons can use the computers for Internet browsing, research,
and/or for checking email. Computer use is on a first-come, first-served basis.
The library also has a color photocopier and a printer. Patrons may print or make photocopies at a cost of $.10 for B&W pages or $.25 for color.
In addition to the 3 iMacs, there is also one media viewing carrel in the library. It is equipped with a video monitor, headphones, a DVD player, and a VHS VCR. Patrons can view material from the library collection or bring in their own material.
